Patriot's Day

Miles and Smiles

Project Goals

The team's job was to assist the Lexington Town Celebration Committee in the creation and facilitation of the 2021 COVID-Conscious Patriots’ Day celebration. This celebration aimed to reignite town spirit during an especially gloomy time. In just a two month timespan, the team had to set up web pages for the Patriot Points Walk event. Lexington residents would use these pages to visit historical monuments across Lexington. Participants would be able to gain knowledge about their significance, and also upload images of their route or of themselves smiling at the monuments.

Project Process

This project was extremely challenging, with members investing numerous hours each week to work on tasks like setting up the technical framework, adhering to client requests, and confering with team members and professionals to meet the tight deadline. Throughout the project, the team had to combat countless technical issues on top of their already rigorous schedules as highschoolers.

Project Success

Despite the challenges, the project granted members the opportunity to learn how to work through frustration, stress, time constraints, and failure. These struggles ultimately made the event’s success much more rewarding. The webpage collected over 200 photos from town residents! Looking at all of the smiling faces that the event brought in while knowing the integral role the team played in the event; made its success extremely fulfilling.

Future Projects

After the Patriots’ Day celebration ended, the team crafted plans to analyze data from the Patriots’ Day project and identify hot spots; monuments that participants visited the most. This would help the town committee better understand what Lexington residents are interested in. This data would also help the Town Celebration Committee plan an improved Patriot Points Walk celebration in coming years.
